The Federalist

The passionate and reasoned argument for the strong Federal government outlined in the Constitution.

The  scope and structure of the government proposed in the Constitution were vigorously contested and the debate was polarizing at the time.  The arguments in favor of a strong federal goverment

 were published in the Federalist essays in an effort to persuade the public and thus their representatives to approve the Constitution.  The arguments are as relevant today as in 1787

Anti-Federalist

The passionate and reasoned argument for the protection of individual rights from government power

While most of the founders agreed  that the Articles of Confederation government had been a failure due to a lack of central authority and power, some were equally concerned about a Constitution that did not explicitly define certain individual rights. And so another compromise was affected by adding a Bill of Rights to the Constitution. Here is a Minority Dissent proposal for these rights addressed to the convention:
